Motown Songwriting Project

We are excited to be delivering workshops in Merton and Sutton schools this term as part of a broader Motown KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) project. Concert date for your diaries: 21st March 2018 (St Andrew’s Church, Cheam)

The workshops will result in some brand new original songs written by KS2 pupils (we’ll post the recordings on the ‘Get Involved’ page at the end of the project). In the workshops we’ll be taking a classic Motown song as a starting point for inspiration.

With such a wealth of fantastic artists and creative tracks – we’ve found it difficult to choose our favourite Motown tracks…so here are some of our favourites to get you in the mood:

  • What’s Going On (Marvin Gaye)
  • I’ll Be There (Jackson 5)
  • Respect (Aretha Franklin)
  • Ain’t no mountain (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell)
  • Uptight (Everything’s Alright) (Stevie Wonder)
  • I heard it through the grapevine (Marvin Gaye)
  • You Can’t Hurry Love (The Supremes)
  • My Girl (The Temptations)
  • My Guy (Mary Wells)
  • Ain’t nothing like the real thing (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell)
  • Heat Wave (Martha and the Vandellas)
