Hannah Merriman

Hannah Merriman

Hannah studied piano and classical guitar, growing up through the Merton Youth Guitar Ensemble and the Merton Youth Jazz Orchestra. At York University she particularly enjoyed singing with Zamar Gospel choir, where she developed her love of vocal and community music. She has worked in the field of opera management and as Music Assistant to the BBC Singers. She now works as a teacher and music educator, where workshop experience includes piloting the Wider Opportunities Guitar Programme in Merton, leading song writing workshops alongside Phil and Ed, and running creative sessions for pre-school children.

Raph Clarkson

Raph Clarkson

Raph is passionate about inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds through joyful, creative music making. He co-founded Be Creative with Phil Merriman in 2009, is currently working as a Spitalfields Trainee Music Leader, and has also delivered a variety of workshops for his band WorldService Project and the Match&Fuse network. Within all of these projects he gets to play trombone, sing, compose and co-lead sessions alongside some of the most exciting practitioners in London and the UK, assisting on innovative community projects including workshops, school residencies and performances.

Ed Babar

Ed Babar

Ed is a professional double bass player and bass guitarist, performing with a range of jazz, pop and orchestral projects. Ed runs resident bands for the prestigious Annabel’s Clubs as well as a fortnightly jazz quartet at the Masons Arms in Battersea.

As an educator Ed is Head of Contemporary music for Merton Music Foundation, where he is responsible for all whole-class teaching in the Borough. He also delivers workshops and sectional coaching on a freelance basis. Ed has been part of the Be Creative Music team since its first London workshop in 2010.

Qualifications: BA Hons in Music and English Literature (Leeds University), DipABRSM (bass).

Phil Merriman

Phil Merriman

Phil has been running music workshops for 5 years. Having run workshops alongside Raph Clarkson (trombone) and Dennis Rollins (jazz educator and instrumentalist) in York, he co-founded London-based Be Creative Music Workshops. Phil works full-time in music; performing, teaching and recording on piano, bass guitar and trumpet.
